Après-ski

Après-ski | \ˌä-ˌprā-ˈskē, ˌa-\
The social activities and entertainment following a day’s skiing. The term originated in the Alps where people gather to toast their day on the mountain. Read below to see who’s toasting and chatting about Anne.

Caroline Barnhill, MPHI have had the pleasure of knowing Anne for several years, working as partners in public health to improve the population’s health. Most recently, we worked together as facilitators at a regional summit for HHS to identify best practices and challenges in planning for medical countermeasure distribution in a public health incident. Anne’s knowledge of the public health process was invaluable to discussions and interactions with local, state, and federal health officials. Anne was compelling as a speaker on the future of public health planning for at-risk populations and those with functional needs. She is clearly well-informed on public health, healthcare, and hospital operations and how we must address the next generation of the population. Anne’s beliefs that our systems for developing and deploying public health resources to ensure all populations are safe and secure are progressive and practical. She brings the highest value to organizations wanting to fully engage and inform stakeholders in matters of public health policy. She is an asset to any team.

Caroline Barnhill, MPH, Founding Director & Public Health Consultant, TCB Health

deb-spira-gablerI had the pleasure of meeting Anne at a workshop on women’s health sponsored by the Cerebral Palsy Foundation. We are working together to provide expertise and guidance for the Foundation on new pilot projects that will improve the healthcare process and patient experience for women with disabilities. Anne ‘s knowledge in health care policy and provider management process has been invaluable to our project design and outcomes. Anne is a highly successful women with CP who brings real-world experience to developing real-time solutions in care management for women with disabilities.  As a practioner, I appreciate Anne’s thought-leadership in population health and personal perspective she provides in our study design and execution. Anne is nothing less than a woman who exemplifies the nexus between quality healthcare and living a a dynamic life!  She lives an exciting, healthy, limitless life!  It’s a pleasure to work with such a dedicated and accomplished woman who exemplifies how value based care empowers patients, their families and communities to achieve anything.

Deborah J. Gaebler-Spira, MD, Director, Cerebral Palsy Program, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC)

dominguezI have known Anne for many, many years as a trusted colleague and dear friend.  I first met Anne when we served at the Department of Labor when I was head of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). Later,  I was honored to swear Anne in as a Member of the National Council on Disability when I was Chair of the Office of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Over the years, I have watched Anne grow in her career and as a respected leader in healthcare. I am amazed at her personal achievements as a Black  Diamond skier–who takes on the toughest runs at all heights!  Anne’s accomplishments and leadership showcase what I call “leading from the heart” and the ability to move individuals and organizations to action.  Anne looks to new heights, brings people together, inspires by her example and leads by action. As I am, people are drawn to her infectious personality, her fortitude and her deep passion to exceed expectations and make a difference–from the Board room to the patient room to the ski room!  Anne exemplifies what I believe we need more of in today’s workplace to be human, act with purpose and passion, engender integrity and trust, and empower people to act.  Anne is a heartfelt leader. I encourage any organization looking for top-talent, who leads with vision, heart and results, to meet Anne. She’ll be a unifying, tenacious and inspiring force for transformative change.

Cari M. Dominguez, Principal, Dominguez & Associates, Former Chair, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Author/Noted Speaker

david-o-coteAnne is all about ability despite having a physical disability on which many would focus and not do much else. Given her biking treks on the trails in DC and her jaunts to the slopes of Vail, one has to wonder if she is conscious of her physical situation. Intellectually, she is as knowledgeable as anyone in the areas of health reform, the impact of Federal policy and the challenges various groups face in the healthcare system, from children to the elderly and those with physical challenges. She is also a giant in the areas of policy analysis, strategy development and access to care, and can move from strategy to tactics to effect execution. She is tenacious and motivating when addressing a wide variety of topics on which she has personal experience from her diverse background in the private sector, government and non-profit organizations. If you are looking for a thought leader who stimulates those around her to maximize their potential in attacking an issue, look no further.

David O. Cote, Associate Executive Director, Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO)

maxineAnne is a formidable, accomplished woman who I have had the pleasure of knowing since her days at Harvard. She is one of the most extraordinary people I’ve ever known. Anne was a student of mine at the Kennedy School and I got to know her in the course of many spirited discussions–in and outside the classroom. At the time, I taught a class on media and the electoral process.  She captured my respect and admiration as a person who clearly was extremely determined, bright and didn’t see herself as different from anyone else sitting in my classroom at Harvard. But in fact she was. Anne was one of two people with disabilities in her class at the Kennedy School at the time. Anne gained the deepest respect from her classmates and the faculty.  She forged new ground for the school, leading the way for Harvard to be more accessible to all.  I have been fortunate to remain good friends with Anne and watch her move forward in her career. She is brave, smart, determined, and utterly charming. I marvel at the great heights she achieves on skis on the slopes of Vail. Anne is a leader who changes fundamentally our ideas about how to think about ability. Meet her and she’ll change yours.

Maxine Isaacs, Ph.D., Adjunct Professor/Lecturer in Government and Associate at the Shorenstein Center, Harvard University

michael-gesalfiAnne is a highly principled and exceptional woman on the move!  I speak with some authority, having worked with her for two elected terms on the National Board of United Cerebral Palsy. Anne is purposeful, tenacious and collaborative. She is strong-willed and, yet, very collegial. As a fellow Board Member, I found her to be a formidable leader, a remarkable spokesman and also an exceptional listener. We also worked together at Booz Allen, where both her sharp analytical and consulting skills were fully demonstrated and apparent to all. Harvard educated, and steeped in career expansive experiences across the corporate, governmental and non-profit worlds, Anne is a shining star with unbounded potential.

Michael J. Gresalfi, Ph.D., Senior Advisor and Author, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Office of Emergency Response (NA-42)

bill-fosterAnne has deep bench experience in healthcare policy and strategic management over the past 25-plus years. She embodies characteristics that any leader would want on a healthcare project team – dedicated, hard-working, analytical, and loyal.  Anne has overcome adversity in her life, both personal and professional, and is undefeated.  The power of Anne’s ability is impressive. She has my strongest recommendation for any team where health care policy and strategy expertise is required–be it leading a project team or a corporate-wide diversity initiative.  She performs with the best of the best.

Bill Foster, Senior Associate, Booz Allen Saudi Arabia

allen-allegrettoIt is rare that I meet people who are talented, passionate, genuine and committed to making a difference for an organization and others. That was what I found when I met Anne several years ago in the course of our respective business travels. I travel the country every week to meet business associates, clients and customers who are just that. Anne quickly captured my attention in her fortitude and grace with which she moves through challenges in life. In getting to know Anne over the years, I quickly learned how smart, capable and determined she is in all that she does.  Her challenges have honed her ability to think strategically, be resourceful, act with impact and incite change. She has an accomplished career that spans working for top level government officials to leading policy makers in health and industry leaders to change business practices, operating processes and most important, attitudes and behaviors that transform how organizations care for some of America’s most vulnerable populations.  She has changed my perspective on the world, how we value talent and what really matters in business and in our daily lives. Anyone taking the time to meet and engage Anne–as a colleague, business partner or friend–will be just as changed. Anne is a beautiful person, inside and out.

joan-bishopAnne is a tenacious dynamo!  I had the pleasure of having Anne on my team for several years at Booz Allen. She has a unique set of abilities and experiences that sets her apart from other Washington luminaries.  Anne conducts exemplar policy analysis, strategy execution and stakeholder engagement on complex health issues that enables Federal agencies, hospitals and non-profit service providers to deliver on health reform. Anne successfully applies strategy and planning expertise to improve organizational performance and transform healthcare operations for clients.  Anne is a key producer of strategic frameworks that transcend organizations from “As-Is” to “To-Be.” Is Anne on your team?! She should be!

william-yasnoffHaving known Anne for many years, both as a professional colleague and friend, I am pleased to have the opportunity to praise her talents.  From my perspective as a health information technology, health policy, and public health professional, she is an effective and respected resource in patient advocacy and population health for leaders in health and health care.

Anne has utilized her expertise and experience in population health to help lead organizations through health reform, public health, and health IT challenges, especially with respect to improving their capacity to serve at-risk and vulnerable populations. Anne has the ability to smoothly navigate the complex issues facing organizations needing to transform systems to meet the changing market demand among populations.

She has seen first-hand how policy shapes the ability of organizations to respond effectively, giving her special insight into policy analysis.  She is a persistent, energetic, and knowledgeable voice on healthcare issues for patients, families, and providers in roles including informing the public, the political and regulatory world, educational institutions, and both the medical and pharmaceutical research communities.

Overall, Anne provides significant added value to any organization managing the challenges of health care transformation, especially for patients and consumers where it really matters . . . at an individual, community or population health level.  Her intelligence, experience, persistence, and drive make her a truly effective facilitator of positive change.

john-schallFew people have even a fraction of all that Anne Rader has to offer.  She possesses a tremendously keen insight into ‘ability matters’ as a person with decades of policy and planning acumen in health and human service issues. Anne also brings a personal and well-regarded perspective to this conversation as a successful person with a disability. A rare combination.  And a rare talent.  That’s why Anne Rader is such a valuable ‘go-to person’ for strategy execution on health and social impact issues.

John Schall, CEO, Caregiver Action Network (CAN)

lisabelluciAnne has been a long-time friend and professional associate for over 20 years.  We were also classmates together at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. Anne is one of the hardest-working, smart and fiercely determined people I know. Who, by the way, has a very quick wit and sense of humor that can bring a smile to even the toughest of the tough.  Anne commands the respect of those she encounters with her knowledge, presence and attitude.  She is as savvy in politics and policy as she is street smart in practical business execution and driving bottom-line results.

Lisa Bellucci, Corporate Executive, Pharmaceuticals

Anne is undaunted by challenges, large or small.  She has a unique way of bringing people together to quickly identify key issues and craft solutions.  When most people give up, Anne keeps going.  She is driven and tenacious.  Anne will focus on achieving your goals in a creative, efficient and collaborative, manner.

Joanne McMahon, Leader, Government Compliance, GE

max-clelandAnne is the personification of courage.  There is nothing she cannot do.  She is truly an exceptional woman with a desire to do whatever it takes to succeed.  She has my enthusiastic and total support!

Max Cleland, U.S. Senator (Ret)., Secretary, American Battle Monument Commission (ABMC)

christine-walkerI have known Anne for nearly 25 years, as a colleague and friend, since our days at the U.S. Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. working for then-Secretary Elizabeth Dole. Anne was on her personal staff, while I worked in Governmental Affairs, “on-call” to provide Anne with critical information for the Secretary’s daily briefings she prepared.  We share a passion for public policy and a commitment to solutions.  Anne has motivated me to become a more effective legislative advocate and remain optimistic in the face of adversity. Anne has the vision, integrity and determination to make a difference and has a legacy of doing so.  Anne’s efforts have improved the lives of countless people throughout the country, and internationally. Anne personifies a “Best Practice” when it comes to being a board member, organizational leader and community voice.  Anne is an asset to any group who is smart enough to snap her up, in addition to leading change and growth within any company or organization looking to effectively manage healthcare transformation.

—Christine Walker, MPPA, Founder & President, The Chasing Hope Foundation

scott-lipstreuI can’t endorse Anne Rader strongly enough.   She is a woman who makes things happen.  In the dozen+ years that I’ve known her, I’ve seen Anne do everything from bend the will of TWO sitting Presidents (of the United States!) to support her causes, talk her way into an un-sanctioned tour of an active foreign Navy vessel, and go from never wearing skis to conquering the Back Bowls of Vail in just 3 years. Anne will be an asset to any team – and woe to anyone who underestimates her strength of character and tenacity.

Scott Lippstreu, PrincipalMonitor Deloitte

james-stearnsI have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Anne for over 25 years and primarily as a member with her on non-profit boards. I can attest to her integrity, passion, and performance. She is committed to seeing a project through, is both an excellent strategist and planner ( a rare commodity in my experience ) and has a sound grasp of policy especially as it impacts on how Federal agencies and providers deliver health care reform. She is also a tremendous motivational speaker drawing on her personal experience as she shows others how to overcome their challenges and maximize their potential.

Jim Stearns, Director of Legal Services, Trade Compliance (Americas), Accenture LLP

michael-urbanFor well over 15 years Anne has been my friend and professional acquaintance and, based on my many discussions and interactions with her, I can tell she is a deep subject matter expert in health, healthcare and quality care models for at-risk and vulnerable populations.  I am an attorney by trade but for the past 21 years I have worked as a consultant for a Big 4 firm.  I understand the demands of management consulting and quality client service.  It is none more so than in the healthcare industry, where Anne works to apply her strategy and execution expertise to drive healthcare transformation models.  Anne is well versed in the academic and theoretical aspects of health care policy.  Yet it is clear to me that Anne is much more focused on helping companies and organizations solve complex, real world problems for their clients, customers, or constituents.  She is not afraid of rolling up her sleeves and getting her hands dirty to find the best solutions for the toughest challenges her clients face in healthcare.  If you are interested in hiring or partnering with someone who provides thought-leadership while producing sustainable, outside-the-box solutions, you need to meet Anne to learn how she can add value to your organization.

Michael Urban, Managing Director, Big 4 Firm

marty-vogelI have known Anne a long time–since middle school. We grew up in the same hometown of Wausau, WI and from the first time I met her, she talked about going to Washington to make a difference. So, naturally when she headed East to fulfill her dream, I wasn’t surprised. As a matter of fact, no one was surprised. We all knew she would change the world–and that is exactly what she is doing.  She has catapulted in her career to accomplish the respect of many, particularly those with who she has worked-from Senators, Congressman and Presidents to hospital administrators, non-profit service leaders and foundation executives. Anne has been making a difference her entire life, and I have been fortunate to watch her from afar to see her forge ahead and create a voice for others who have challenges and to rise above anything that stands in her way. She is a woman of true strength, character and grace (and a bit feisty)–much like her lovely mother who often lived vicariously through Anne as she too pursued her dreams. Anne continues to make a difference sharing her story and working to improve healthcare for those most in need to live healthy, successful lives–as she does. If you haven’t met Anne and are looking for true talent, dedication and know-how to move your organization forward, create an invaluable opportunity to have one of the best and the brightest join your team!

Marty Vogel, Vice President, Principal Gifts, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Foundation

paul-boykasI have known Anne for over 20 years and she is someone who is always ready for a challenge, both personally and professionally.  Anne is an engaging sincere person with a sharp and questioning mind.  She has a passion for issues – especially health care – and a dedication to seeing the job done in the right way.  She can be dogged in resolving matters, though always a courteous coalition builder.  And while her successes have been many, she is always ready for the next challenge, relishing the opportunity to solve problems and to contribute in a significant way. Should those needing to solve tough policy issues, with a focus in health, and exceed your business goals and market demands, take a moment to meet Anne.

Paul Boykas, Vice President, Global Public Policy, Pepsico

beth-behrendAnne shatters all stereotypes about “ability.”  I’ve shared many an adventure with Anne in the 25+ years since we first met as impressionable interns on Capitol Hill.  Together we’ve explored odd corners of Washington, New York and Singapore, skied Vail, and once even boarded a Malaysian naval ship from a dinghy in the South China Sea for a moonlight BBQ as guests of the ship’s Captain. Wherever we go, people are drawn to meet Anne and often surprising connections are made — be it in the middle of Times Square, on Colorado ski lifts or remote tropical beaches.  Over the years I have also been fortunate to witness Anne excel professionally, becoming a well-respected healthcare policy professional and dynamic speaker.  Anne works tirelessly to make a true impact for organizations confronting healthcare transformation and those most at-risk. Her global travels, active lifestyle and extensive network give her a unique and powerful perspective on issues of public health, health reform and population health. Moreover, Anne’s ready wit and strong emotional intelligence make her a key asset for any organization fortunate enough to see her value and ability.  For those wanting to be on the cutting edge of change, embracing bold thinking and leadership with purpose, Anne is your woman!

Beth Behrend, Corporate Attorney and Non-Profit Professional

amy-stoeffelAnyone who knows Anne, knows she is the real deal in everything she does. An amazing woman who captures the room wherever she goes—from the Board room to the classroom to the conference room! Faced with physical challenges since birth, she was raised by parents who wouldn’t let her take a backseat to anyone or let her get down on herself. They believed in her ability to do anything. I am a school teacher to a class of third graders – many of whom don’t experience or encounter Anne’s challenges. Anne grabs the attention of these young kids when they see just what a determined, smart and capable person can do with their life.  Anne draws the respect and admiration of all who know her. I am very thankful to know Anne….meet her and you will too.

Idavid-laplant have known Anne since we were undergraduates at Marquette University. She knew everyone – and everyone knew her. She is all about ability. She lives life at full speed and never shrinks from a challenge. Her strong work ethic, determination, intellect, and spirit are exceptional. I always knew Anne would make a difference. She has always been passionate about ensuring people with disabilities live the adventure, as she does, and has been their untiring champion throughout her career. She tells it like it is–honest and straightforward. She is smart, knowledgeable, and always interested in sharing her opinion. Anne has faced difficult challenges and overcome them with courage, energy, and resoluteness. I encourage anyone looking to add an inspiring leader to their team, or for a speaker who can raise them to their feet, to meet Anne. You won’t be disappointed.
